30 lb. Miracle
( Fishing Story)
Back in 1969-1970, my wife, oldest son Chuck and I were privileged to live in Corpus Christi, Texas.
I served on staff at Travis Baptist Church as Minister of Music and Youth.
I have been a fisherman since I was 11 or 12 years old and still love to fish, duck hunt, and deer hunt.
Back in 1969, my wife Dee decided, one week, to go back to Louisiana and visit her parents and kin folks. Later on that week I decided that I would go down to Oso Pier on Ocean Drive in Corpus one afternoon and fish for Black Drum. When I got to the pier it was “loaded” with people, many of which were Drum fishing. I started fishing for Drum with a 7ft. rod, equipped with a Penn 309 Saltwater Reel, and used a double drop rig baited with the pinchers from a crab.
I soon learned that many of the fishermen had been fishing for hours, but none of them had caught any drum. I fished for several hours, but was unsuccessful at catching a drum. I finally decided that I would quit fishing and go on back to the house, but before I left, I decided to make one final cast.
I had no idea that a real miracle was about to take place.
I threw my baited hooks about 50 yards out into the bay, and as it was falling into the water, a large fish supposedly hit it and started to stripping line off the reel. I fought the fish for about 5 or so minutes and finally wrestled the fish until it was close to the pier. A gentleman asked me if I wanted him to gaff the fish for me, and I said yes. He had a rope with a gaff tied to it and was successful in helping me get the fish up on the pier which was about 15 ft. off the water. When we landed the fish on the pier, it came off the hook, and we discovered that a real miracle had taken place. This 30 lb. black drum happened to swim by just as my double drop rig was entering the water. We discovered that the black drum had a double drop rig hanging from its mouth, and as my rig hit the water, one of my hooks caught on one of the hooks, hanging from the drum’s mouth. I was able to keep the line tight and land the fish from 50 yards out without my hook coming loose from the other hook. As people began to learn what had happened, they went “wild” and one of them called the Corpus Christi Newspaper, and they came out to the pier to take pictures, and write a story about the “strange as it seems” happening.
That was an exciting miracle, but I had a miracle happen to me which was much more exciting than the fishing miracle.
It was a miracle “of love and grace”, offered to every human being in the world, by Jesus Christ, who had died on a cross for our sins, and was buried in a borrowed tomb, and arose from the dead 3 days later. I trusted the Lord and was saved during a spring revival at First Baptist Church, Tutwiler, Mississippi and followed Christ’ command to be baptized.
According to the Bible, there is only one way that a person can get to Heaven from where they live.
John 14: 6 tells us the way: In John 14: 6 Jesus was talking to Thomas and had this to say: “Jesus told him”, I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life. no one can get to the Father except by means of me. (from The Living Bible).
Here is a simple “road map” to Heaven:
1). Realize that you and I are sinners. Romans 3:23 says- “Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal.”
2). The price of sin is eternal separation from God. Romans 6:23 says-“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
3). Jesus paid the penalty of sin for you and I. Romans 5:8 says: “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
4). You must turn from sin, or as the Bible says, repent. Romans 2:4 says: Can’t you see that He has been waiting all this time without punishing you, to give you time to turn from your sins. His kindness is meant to lead you to repentance.”
5). By faith, you can be saved. Just admit to God that you are a sinner, and ask Jesus Christ to come into your life and save you. Romans 10:13 says: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
If you want to become a born again Christian, just pray and ask the Lord Jesus to save you:
Here is a suggested prayer”
Dear Lord Jesus:
I realize that I am a sinner, and ask you to forgive me of my sins, and with your help I now turn from sin. Please come into my life right now and save me. Thank you Dear Jesus for saving me.
Here are some ways that will help you grow as a Christian, after you have invited Jesus Christ into your life:
A), Make your decision known publicly. Matt. 10:32 says-If anyone publicly acknowledges me as his friend, I will openly acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven,
B). Follow Christ in Baptism. Mark 16:16-“Those who believe and are baptized will be Saved, but those who Refuse to Believe, will be condemned.”
C). Read God’s word daily. 2 Timothy 3: 16-“The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God, and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us to do what is right.”
D). Attend Church and Bible Study regularly. Hebrews 10:25 -“Let us not neglect our Church duties and meetings as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of His coming back again is drawing near.”
E). Share this story with your friends and other people. 1 Corinthians 9:22b -“Whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him.”
It is simple, if you will just direct them to my website: musiconaduckcall.com and encourage them to read one of the stories that I have posted on the website.
May God bless you.
