When you let go and trust God things happen in a way you couldn’t have planned.

Sometimes you just have to release worry and hold on to faith.

It’ll happen how it’s supposed to happen and exactly when it’s supposed to happen.

Tony A. Gaskins Jr.

This unplanned deer hunt started with a planned trip to Ridgecrest Baptist Conference Center near Ashville, North Carolina for a bus load of Senior Adults.

Bus drivers for the trip were Billy B. and myself. As Minister of Senior Adults at First Baptist Church West Monroe, La., I was in charge of the trip. It was an uneventful trip until after we left the Baptist Assembly on the way back to Louisiana.

Accommodations for the trip home were scheduled for Gatlinburg, Tn. and Bessemer, Al. After arriving in Gatlinburg, I came down with a strong virus and had to be admitted to the hospital in Knoxville, Tn. I got better in a day or so, and we were to leave for Bessemer, Alabama on Friday and return to West Monroe on Saturday.  However, Billy informed me that the group had discussed it, and since I had been sick, they voted to go all the way home on Friday. I was not about to argue with a bus load of Senior Adults, so we left for West Monroe.

On the way home, I got to feeling better and better, and asked Billy if he would like to go deer hunting with me just west of Junction City, La. (Arkansas), the next morning which was Saturday. He said that he would like to go and we could go in his truck.

So, we left early on Saturday morning and drove the 65 miles to Bud Leake’s place where we would deer hunt.

I decided to put Billy B. on the deer stand that I usually hunt on, so we walked to the stand, got Billy situated and then I returned to the truck to get my gun and back pack.  After arriving back at the truck, I discovered that the truck was locked, and I noticed that the keys were still in the ignition.

I walked back to the stand and told Billy what had happened.  He volunteered to go call his wife to bring us the other set of keys, and I told Billy to go ahead and hunt, and I would walk the 7 miles back into Junction City and call both his wife and Bud Leake.  So, I took off walking to Junction City and after walking about a mile came upon this intersection. I noticed that a truck was getting to the intersection about the same time as I was.

This young man stopped and asked me if I was having trouble, and I explained to him what had happened. I told him that I needed to get to a phone in Junction City and call Billy’s wife back, in  Monroe.  He said that we could go to his house and call from his phone, and I asked him if he would mind just going on to the store in Junction City. He agreed to carry me to the store. (This was before the popularity of cell phones.)

After arriving at the store, I called Marie, and after talking with her, called Bud L. I was thankful that both were home, and they agreed to bring the other set of keys to us.

I then decided that I would get me a coke, and sit down and rest a short while, before I started walking the 7 miles back to our hunting place. I had no longer sat down, than a tall African American gentleman walked in the door. Since, I was the only one there other than the store workers, he walked over to me and seeing that I was dressed in hunting clothes, said: O.K. I know I am going to hear a bunch of deer stories today, so I might as well start with you. I explained to him all that had happened, and that I was resting before I started the 7 mile trip back to our hunting place. He said:  “that is the saddest deer hunting story that I have heard yet, and told me to come with him out to his truck and he would give me a ride back to the woods.

So, after we started back, I began to talk with him about his relationship to Jesus Christ, and after about 5 to 10 minutes, he pulled over on the side of the road and told me that He wanted to ask Jesus to save him, which he did.

We then headed the rest of the way to the woods where we were hunting.  I walked the other half mile or so back to Billy’s truck.

Just as I got there, Marie and Bud drove up with the other set of keys, and Billy walked up about the same time grinning from ear to ear. It seems that Billy had killed a deer off my stand. That was DIVINE TIMING.

I believe in DIVINE TIMING and I believe that it was no accident that you have read this story. It was for one or two reasons: 1). You are already a born again Christian and know some people that you can share this story with. 2). You need to hear about how to get to Heaven from where you live.

First, here is the only way that you can get to heaven according to the Bible. In John 14: 6 Jesus told him, “I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life, no one can get to the Father, but by means of me.

What follows next is not my opinion, it is what God said in the Bible.(Living Bible).

Romans 3:23-“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Romans 6:23-“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 5:8-“But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Romans 2:4-“Don’t you realize how patient He is being with you , or don’t you care? Can’t you see that He has been waiting all this time without punishing you, to give you time to turn from you sin? His kindness is meant to lead you to repentance.

Romans 10:9-“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Romans 10:13 (the key verse)-“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Would you like to call upon His name to save you, right now?

If so, here is a suggested prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus:

I realize that I am a sinner, and ask you to forgive me of my sins, and with your help I now turn from Sin. Please come into my heart right now, and save my soul.  Thank you, Jesus for saving me. Amen.

What to do next: 1). Make you decision known publicly. 2). Follow Christ in Baptism. 3). Read God’s Word daily. 4). Attend Church and Bible Study regularly, and 4). Share this story with others.

May God Bless you in the days ahead, and don’t forget to thank Him for DIVINE TIMING,

1). Trip to North Carolina for Senior Adults with Billy as a second  bus                driver.

2). Accommodations in Gatlinburg on the return trip home.

3). I had to get sick enough to have to go to the hospital.

4). The plan to spend the night in Bessemer, Alabama had to be “scratched.”

5). I had to get well.

6). Billy had to want to go hunting.

7). Billy had to lock keys in truck.

8). Had for young man to show up at intersection at exactly the right time.

9). Both Marie and Bud had to be home and both able to come to Junction City and bring the extra truck keys.

10). African American gentleman had to arrive at the store at exactly the right time, and me be the only one in the store for him to talk to.

11). God had to put the want to in the man’s heart. John 6:44-“For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him unto Me, and at the Last Day I will cause all such to rise from the dead.”

12). He had to pull over on the side of the road and ask the Lord to save him.

13). The deer had to show up at exactly the right time for Billy to harvest the deer.

14). Finally, every step in this process had to occur at just the right time. If one thing had been left out, I would have missed the opportunity to share Jesus with the man.
